The Path: What Chinese Philosophers
Can Teach Us About the Good Life
with Michael Puett and Christine Gross-Loh

Tuesday, June 76:30-8:00PM
40 Rector Street, 2nd Floor, New York, NY 10006
Event Fees: Members: $10; Non-Members: $15
Why is a course on ancient Chinese philosophers one of the most popular at Harvard?
It’s because the course challenges all our modern assumptions about what it takes to flourish. As Professor Michael Puett says to his students, “The encounter with these ideas will change your life.”
Chinese philosophical thinking is among the most powerful and influential in human history – and its ideas challenge many of the widely held assumptions Westerners have about the self and how to lead a flourishing life. Join China Institute on Tuesday June 7, as we welcome Michael Puett and Christine Gross-Loh to discuss their recent work,The Path: What Chinese Philosophers Can Teach Us About the Good Life. For the first time an award-winning Harvard professor shares his wildly popular course on classical Chinese philosophy, showing you how these ancient ideas can guide you on the path to a good life today.

WACA Chinese New Year Celebration

Following an enormous success for the Chinese New Year Festival held at the Westchester County Center last year, the Westchester Association of Chinese Americans (WACA) will organize its 2016 Annual Celebration on Saturday, January 30, 2016 from 2pm to 6pm at the New Rochelle High School.

For this Year of the Monkey, the theme of the celebration is “Keeping an Age-old Tradition Alive”, featuring in gourmet Chinese cuisine presentation and food sampling by the local Asian restaurants, bakeries or individuals; art gallery presenting art shows, calligraphy and Chinese painting; hand craft demonstrations such as paper cutting and origami; martial arts demonstrations including Tai Chi and lion dance; as well as Chinese musical instruments performances. On top of all these, there will be a formal program of artistic performances by the professional artists and the local art groups showcasing, plus a marvelous presentation of Chinese professional acrobats. And best of all, the early bird price for this year will remain at $15 for adult and $10 for elderly and children, a bargain you can’t find anywhere in the county.

This year marks the 27th anniversary of this annual Chinese New Year celebration event organized by WACA, and the upcoming 2016 celebratory activities are going to be held with support from many local businesses and organizations.

So please come to spend an afternoon with us to enjoy the festive atmosphere of the Chinese New Year, to learn the rich history and culture of China and to taste the delicacies that this culture has to offer.

This event is sponsored by TD Bank, and supported by HXGNY, HXNYC, HXSCS, NYCS, NWCS, CSSW, OCA-WHV, FCC, and Verizon.

NWCS Graduation and New Year Celebration

From: NWCS Vice Principal <>
Date: 12/11/2014 10:19 PM

Hello Everyone,

This is a reminder that NWCS annual Chinese New Year Celebration and graduation ceremony will be held on Saturday, January 10th. Like last year, we will begin the event during the morning after class finals. The ceremony will be held at the Briarcliff High School Auditorium, followed by lunch in the cafeteria and then the carnival in the gym. Approximate times are:

Graduation and Class Performances – 10:00 am to 12:30

Lunch – 12:30 to 1:30 pm

Carnival – 1:30 pm to 3:30 pm

We will begin selling tickets for the lunch (see attached for menu) and carnival on Saturday 12th. All tickets (adults and children) are $15. We will be offering a menu of lunch boxes from which you can pre-order your lunch selection.

For the carnival, we will have games and arts and crafts, where kids can earn tickets to redeem for prizes. You can contribute to this effort by donating items for prizes such small toys, games and crafts, which your kids have not used or gently used or outgrown (recycling!). We will start collecting these on Saturday also.

Finally, we will need volunteers for the following:

Lunch set-up and distribution

Clean-up after lunch

Oversee games and selling snacks such as pop-corn and juice.

Please email me or see me if you can volunteer. I will be selling the tickets in the cafeteria.

Thanks everyone and I look forwards another successful event.
